Location: Hervey Bay, QLD
Client: Department of Transport and Main Roads
Principal Contractor: SCC
Engineers: TMR
Start Date: September 2014
Finish Date: October 2014
Value: $225K
Contract Type: Lump Sum

Scope of Works:

TMR engaged SCC to carry out repair works to
breakwater walls that were constructed in 2002.
Tidal currents within the dredge ponds had
created flow paths through the breakwater walls
resulting in the loss of some dredge spoil through
the walls necessitating the works.
The works included:

  • Re-shaping the internal breakwater walls
  • Adding infill material to the batter
    surfaces
  • Lining the internal breakwater walls with
    geotextile fabric
  • Anchoring the geotextile fabric
  • Removal of some interpond drainage
    connections

Challenges:

Tight time frame

  • Minimise disruption to breakwater
    operations
  • Work under tidal range
  • Unstable dredge material
  • Restricted access
